The Takeda Foundation has organized a committee for international collaboration in science and technology to explore possible regional collaboration frameworks, and the committee has been discussing various possibilities for regional collaboration in science and technology.
The committee recently has reached the conclusion that Asia should create an Asian Research Area (ARA) as a regional collaborative mechanism to enable cross-border research collaboration and regional human development. The ARA is perceived as a regional R&D system that is open to the rest of the world, whose purpose is to realize borderless research within the region by promoting collaborative research, sharing its research infrastructure, and developing a multilayered human network among participants from public institutes, government, the private non-profit sector, and companies.
