- The Takeda Techno-Entrepreneurship Award Funds R&D Which Creates and
Applies Engineering Intellect and Knowledge -
Release Date: February 28, 2002
MENLO PARK, Calif. and TOKYO, February 2002 - The Takeda Foundation, a
recently established Japanese foundation which supports engineering achievement
through its annual awards, grant program and scholarships, has announced
a call for topics for the second annual Takeda Techno-Entrepreneurship
Award. The Takeda Techno-Entrepreneurship Award provides research and development
(R&D) grants to researchers who are creating and applying new engineering
knowledge that will generate substantial value for people.
These R&D grants will be awarded to individual researchers, or groups
of researchers, in three fields: information/electronics, the life sciences,
and the environment. Two R&D grants will be awarded in each of the
three application fields. The monetary value for each of the six awards
will be a maximum of 10 million yen (approximately US$80,000) per year
for up to three years. The Takeda Techno-Entrepreneurship Award requires
that the funded research will have practical applications or lead to the
creation of a commercialized product in the near future.
The Foundation has created an innovative screening process for selecting
research proposals. Award winners will be selected based upon competitive
"cyber (online) workshops" held in specific technical subjects.
The Foundation is currently requesting suggestions for these cyber-workshops
topics until March 15th, 2002, (URL: http://www.takeda-foundation.jp/).
After the session topics are determined, the call for research proposals
will occur between April 1st and May 31st, 2002.
The Award is open to individuals of all nationalities and all organizational
affiliations (e.g. company, university, or independent). About the Takeda
Foundation Awarding and supporting techno-entrepreneurship is the core
goal of the Tokyo-based Takeda Foundation that was established in April
2001. In addition to its award and research grant programs, which it implements
on an international basis, the Foundation sponsors fellowships for Japanese
students and international students studying in Japan. The Foundation also
conducts research and disseminates information related to techno-entrepreneurship.
Further information on the Foundation's activities, awards and grants is
available on its website (URL: http://www.takeda-foundation.jp).
SRI International, a leading non-profit research institute based in Menlo
Park, California, is working with the Foundation to expand the global reach
of its programs.
